Gruman Retires from Bank Board

Aberdeen, S.D.—Long-time Aberdeen banker, service club leader, and consultant, Bob Gruman, retired from the Dacotah Bank board of directors this month. Bob celebrated his retirement with fellow board members at his final meeting last week. Gruman served on the bank’s board of directors from 1997-2017. He was also a member of the board’s Audit and Trust Committees.

Westra thanked Bob for his service and recognized him for his contributions to the company. “Bob is always well prepared and ready to ask thought-provoking questions that inspired important discussions. Bob’s values have been a constant reminder of the fair and equitable approach to governance needed when balancing the needs of communities, customers, employees, and stockholders.”

Bob’s career spanned decades as a banker with First Bank System which later became US Bank and the Bank of North Dakota in Bismarck, ND. He also served on the board of the Aberdeen Development Corporation. Since 1996 he has operated Bob Gruman Consulting, serving clients in the financial services, engineering, accounting, research, and management services sectors.

Gruman graduated from Hannaford High School in Hannaford, ND and holds a Bachelor of Sciences degree from North Dakota State University and a Master’s degree from NDSU. During his 38 years as a lender and bank manager he also graduated from the Graduate School of Banking, Madison, WI.

Bob is well known for his fund-raising success in support of Storybook Land at Wylie Park. A passionate member of the local Sertoma Club, Bob has been a key person on numerous additions and developments at the family destination on Aberdeen’s northern entrance.

Bob and his wife Mary make their home in Aberdeen.
